As part of the CSL’s mission to provide a public square for language faculty, we are starting a new lunchtime round table initiative to provide greater opportunities for language teachers and program coordinators to discuss issues in teaching and learning our languages in an informal setting.

The CSL Lunchtime Round Table will be quite informal and lunch will be provided at periodic meetings throughout the year. Topics will be announced in advance so that participants can bring ideas for brainstorming or even materials to share.

FIRST MEETING: Tuesday, November 16 12:30-2:00 in Cobb 210

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION (NOV 16):

a) What are you doing at the advanced levels (beyond second year). How are you building up your program at the advanced levels?

b) What are heritage speakers? How do you approach teaching “heritage speakers”.

c) When even the talkative students are quiet: How do you get your students to speak in class?

We envision these round tables being informal, conversational opportunities to advance the discussion of language teaching and learning on campus. This is an opportunity to share things you’ve learned in your own teaching or at conferences or workshops with your colleagues on campus.
