Faculty Associate of Turkish, UW Madison, Deadline: February 22

Degree and area of specialization:
Minimum of a BA degree (masters or doctorate preferred), with a major preferably in Turkish language and literature.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least one year of college/university experience in teaching of Turkish language at any level is necessary. Experience with current pedagogy also preferred.
Principal duties:
*In coordination with the Turkish Language Director, and designated Arabic and Persian Immersion Program (APIP) staff members, perform the following duties:
*Teach Turkish at the elementary or intermediate level in an eight-week summer immersion format on the UW-Madison campus.
*Prepare syllabus, appropriate course goals and objectives, lesson plans and teaching materials in
conjunction with the Turkish Language Director.
*Prepare, administer, and grade classroom and home assignments and exams.
*Administer written and oral proficiency exams.
*Hold regular office hours at least 4 days/week (can be held on weekends).
*Participate in any and all teacher meetings and pedagogical workshops offered by APIP.
*Continue student instruction in target language through regular attendance at non-classroom activities
such as meals, film showings, field trips, and picnics, including evenings and weekends.
*Assist with preparation and implementation of mini-courses and other extra-curricular activities. Each
instructor will be expected to teach 10-15 hours of mini-courses over the summer.
*Commit to only using the target language in interaction with students and staff for the duration of the
program.
*Reside at study site in Madison, Wisconsin, required for the duration of the program. Instructional staff
will each have one mandatory weekend off on a rotating basis.

Additional Information:
Faculty from other institutions may be hired as a Visiting Professor. Number of positions available depends upon student enrollment in APIP Program.

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

Native or near native fluency in Turkish, combined with a bachelors degree or equivalent. Masters
degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least one year of college/university experience preferred in teaching of Turkish language or culture
at any level.
Principal duties:
In coordination with designated Arabic and Persian Immersion Program (APIP) staff members,
perform the following duties:

*Facilitate Turkish immersion environment inside and outside the classroom.
*Support classroom instruction in conjunction with the Turkish Language Instructors and Turkish
*Language Director by providing cultural and linguistic resources.
*Be on-site with Turkish language students weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
*Prepare, assist with, and implement mini-courses and other extracurricular events.
*Direct and coordinate athletic activities for students.
*Facilitate communication between APIP administrative staff and students by, for example, translating weekly activity updates.Work with Program Coordinator to establish and monitor tutoring sessions for students.
*Work with Turkish Language Director to establish and monitor interactions between students and
native speaking population on campus.
