IREX seeks candidates for a lead instructor and guest lecturers to administer an online global education professional development course.
The Teachers for Global Classrooms program, a program of the Department of State and administered by IREX, strives to build capacity for globalizing U.S. classrooms and core curriculum by providing American secondary educators with intensive training in skills, techniques, and methodologies that would facilitate this process. The online professional development course objectives include, but are not limited to:
·Defining and analyzing the term global education for secondary education;
·Identifying and characterizing global competencies and best practices in secondary education;
·Adapting and integrating global competencies into core curriculum and standards;
·Reflecting on professional application and practice;
·Developing and refining unit plan(s) with global perspective; and
·Creating or expanding tools for assessing student work with a global education lens.
Duties and Responsibilities
The global education online instructor will work with IREX staff to:
·Revise the syllabus and training materials for secondary educators that meet online course objectives;
·Deliver key elements of the curriculum;
·Develop assessment tool(s) for evaluating course participants;
·Help coordinate/recruit/supervise guest lecturer(s); and
·Provide written feedback to course participants on submitted work within a specific timeframe.
Guest online lecturers will:
·Coordinate with the lead online instructor to design and facilitate topic specific sessions in global education for secondary teachers that meet course objectives.
·Demonstrated knowledge and experience in online course instruction (Blackboard Prosite experience preferred);
·Experience offering professional in-service training for secondary educators;
·Knowledge and experience working with common core standards and curriculum design for global competencies in lesson plan/unit development;
·Background and experience in secondary education with a demonstrated emphasis on global education/competencies; and
·Strong collaboration, communication and computer skills are required.
