The Choices Program
Brown University’s Choices Program invites teachers to apply for a 2012 Summer Institute
focused on engaging students in critical examination and dialogue on the U.S. role in
Afghanistan.
The Institute will be co-led by two Chicago area classroom teachers who are Choices
Teaching Fellows. The goal of this Summer Institute, as well as our work in the Chicago
area as a whole, is to build a community of educators who are dedicated to collaborating
with each other in teaching about contested international issues, and who wish to develop
their students’ skills and habits of active civic engagement. The 2012 Chicago Summer
Institute will mark the beginning of this Chicago-based initiative. Activities and mentoring
will continue throughout the 2012-13 school year and beyond.
