FACULTY ASSOCIATE OF TURKISH
FACULTY ASSOCIATE(D92DN) OR ASSOC FACULTY ASSOC(D92FN) OR ASST FACULTY ASSOC(D92LN)
Degree and area of specialization:
Minimum of a BA degree (masters or doctorate preferred), with a major preferably in Turkish language and literature.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least one year of college/university experience in teaching of Turkish language at any level is necessary. Experience with current pedagogy also preferred.
*In coordination with the Turkish Language Director, and designated Arabic and Persian Immersion Program (APIP) staff members, perform the following duties:
*Teach Turkish at the elementary or intermediate level in an eight-week summer immersion format on the UW-Madison campus.
*Prepare syllabus, appropriate course goals and objectives, lesson plans and teaching materials in
conjunction with the Turkish Language Director.
*Prepare, administer, and grade classroom and home assignments and exams.
*Administer written and oral proficiency exams.
*Hold regular office hours at least 4 days/week (can be held on weekends).
*Participate in any and all teacher meetings and pedagogical workshops offered by APIP.
*Continue student instruction in target language through regular attendance at non-classroom activities
such as meals, film showings, field trips, and picnics, including evenings and weekends.
*Assist with preparation and implementation of mini-courses and other extra-curricular activities. Each
instructor will be expected to teach 10-15 hours of mini-courses over the summer.
*Commit to only using the target language in interaction with students and staff for the duration of the
*Reside at study site in Madison, Wisconsin, required for the duration of the program. Instructional staff
will each have one mandatory weekend off on a rotating basis.
Faculty from other institutions may be hired as a Visiting Professor. Number of positions available depends upon student enrollment in APIP Program.
A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
A period of evaluation will be required
