Pines’ Maimonides: The History of the Translation and Interpretation

of the Guide of the Perplexed

This international, three-day conference marked the 50th anniversary of the publication by the University of Chicago Press of Shlomo Pines’ English translation of Maimonides philosophical magnum opus. Held at the Divinity School – Swift Hall, it was sponsored by the Chicago Center for Jewish Studies, The Division of the Humanities, The Martin Marty Center for the Advanced Study of Religion, The Franke Institute for the Humanities, the Norman Wait Harris Fund of the Center for International Studies, the Pines Society, the France Chicago Center, the John U. Nef Committee on Social Thought, the Department of Philosophy, the Leo Strauss Center, the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, the University of Chicago Press, and the Chicago Center in Beijing.
