NRC blames Mitsubishi for damages at San Onofre nuclear via Powergrid International

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was responsible for the failures that led to the permanent closure of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
The NRC issued a preliminary public notice September 23 that said MHI’s computer models did not detect vibrations that badly damaged a system of steam generators that was also built by MHI.

The NRC also said SCE parent company Edison International’s failure to catch the design flaw that led to the damage constituted a low to moderate safety violation.
