LAST CHANCE TO SIGN Tell Energy Secretary Chu: Stop “Interim” Storage of Radioactive Waste and a New Mobile Chernobyl…

LAST CHANCE TO SIGN! ACT BY TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 9 AM EASTERN

TELL ENERGY SECRETARY CHU: STOP “INTERIM” STORAGE OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE AND A NEW MOBILE CHERNOBYL…

…AND STOP MAKING RADIOACTIVE WASTE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

January 20, 2012

Dear Friends,

As we stated earlier this week, a group letter to DOE Secretary Steven Chu will be delivered on January 24. This letter urges him to intervene with his Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future and stop “interim” storage of high-level radioactive waste.

An “interim” storage site would set us on a path to large-scale transportation of lethal radioactive materials on roads and rails across the U.S.–and to an inevitable Mobile Chernobyl–while doing absolutely nothing toward moving us toward a solution to the radioactive waste problem. And, indeed, the only real solution to radioactive waste is to stop making it entirely.

This is your last chance to join more than 3,000 individuals and dozens of organizations who already have signed this letter. But we think more of you than that will want to sign on, so if you haven’t done so yet, please do it now!

Organizations: please send your name, organization name, city, state, and country (if outside the U.S.) to nirsnet@nirs.org

Individuals: If you are signing for yourself and/or your family, please sign the petition here. Only your names, city and state will be added to the letter delivered to Secretary Chu. No phone numbers, e-mail addresses or street addresses will be provided to the Energy Department.

The full text of the letter to Secretary Chu is available here.

Our January 17 Alert announcing this letter is available here.

Thank you for taking this action.
