Actor uses lessons learned overseas to fight nuclear energy via The Japan Times Online

Actor Taro Yamamoto, who has become an active opponent of nuclear power, says he hopes to spread the antinuclear message in Japan using tips he has gained from visiting foreign countries.

Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on Tuesday, Yamamoto lamented that the movement here against nuclear power, while showing some momentum in the wake of the Fukushima crisis, is not on a par with similar movements in other countries.

The Hyogo Prefecture native, who has 20 years of acting under his belt, said that since he began speaking out against nuclear energy following the outbreak of the Fukushima crisis, the number of jobs he has been offered has plunged and his income has dwindled to less than a tenth of what it was.

But he said his activities have given him the opportunity to meet other people with shared interests and made him eager to bring change to Japan through “people power.”
