Doctors check on North’s hibakusha via The Japan Times Online

HIROSHIMA — A group of Japanese doctors returned from North Korea on Sunday after interviewing hibakusha from the 1945 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who now reside in the reclusive communist country.

“A-bomb survivors in North Korea have faced discrimination and the hazardous effects of radiation as those in Japan have,” Shizuteru Usui, president of the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association, told reporters. “We will urge the Japanese government to support the North Korean survivors who are aging and have little time left to live.”
