Monday, July 25, 2011Pakistan’s atomic stockpile oversight body intends in 2011 to ready no fewer than 24 additional missiles designed for delivering nuclear warheads to targets within short distances, the Express Tribune reported on Monday (see GSN, April 29).

The Strategic Plans Division offered information on the plan to Pakistan’s top-level National Command Authority. Insiders said the effort reflects an increasing “urge” among Pakistani leaders to pursue “strategic parity in the region” with nuclear-armed rival India (see GSN, July 20).
