WA’s uranium industry – on shaky ground? via ABC News

Even in a pro-mining state, uranium mining has had a chequered past.

The Federal government’s three mines policy in the 80s combined with state Labor’s opposition to uranium mining all but stopped the industry.

However, with Federal Labor broadening its stance and a state Liberal government in power, some say uranium exploration and development in Western Australia is firmly back on the agenda.

The key players in the industry are in Fremantle this week for Australia’s largest uranium conference.

Last year the conference was marred by protesters and in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster, uranium mining remains a hot topic.
