The worst-case scenario at the troubled Japanese nuclear reactors still would not expose the public to catastrophic amounts of radiation, says Dr. John Lee, a professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan.

Lee is an expert on nuclear design, risk and safety at the No.1 nuclear engineering program in the country and author of a book due out in May, “Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems.” Lee worked at General Electric at the time the company was manufacturing the type of reactors used at the Fukushima plant in Japan.
